We were interested in the universal Stress Protein from a research standpoint.  Similar proteins are found in archea, prokaryotes and eukaryotes (but not humans).  It is involved in response to oxidation, drought, high salinity, and other stresses.  We searched PDGe for “Universal Stress Protein”.  Each of the two subunits has an ATP-binding domain and a Mn-binding domain.  The protein is about 86A at the widest point.  It looks like a butterfly.
