Project (Pawel and Tara)

Phylogenetic Tools presentation

Blog Example (project)

I’m interested in finding/understanding/characterizing the underlying genetic cause(s) of autism in mice.  I’m not sure what tools and strategies I should use in order to accomplish this task.  I just think mice are really cool!

Resource/Tool Candidates:

From Mendeley:  Paper about genetically engineered autistic mice

From Diigo:  Group aimed at discussing autism

From Reader:  Reader optimized for finding news and information about autism in mammals

From PDB visualized with Pymol: (some protein thought to be involved in mouse autism)

ISMD Award # 1R25GM086761-01

PEER (Program for Excellence and Equity in Research) aims to create a “program of excellence” that implements innovations and leverages existing resources across the UTK campus to generate more accomplished, competitive and determined under represented minority Ph.Ds.

As part of this curriculum, BioQUEST staff will present the second annualSkills for Success workshop to first year PEER graduate students as well as other first year UTK  graduate students from other programs. Participants are expected to engage in interactive group work that focuses on computational tools and data used to address current biological problems. This is our third annual Skills for Success Workshop.
