Possible Audiences:

Natural Science course for non-science majors. No prior science or math prerequisites are expected.

Brief Overview:

The work presented is one of up to 5 units within a 1 semester course for non-science majors. We are designing the course to satisfy the objectives for the natural science requirement.

1) an understanding of science as a way of knowing or inquiry, through asking questions and systematically discovering the answers to those questions and
2) development of objective evaluation skills.
Care has been taken to provide significant experience in physics, biology, chemistry, and mathematics. We plan to include one field trip per unit that will further emphasize the value of understanding science and the scientific method.

Project Materials:

Reading packet and Web resources for background reading (to be determined - several are listed in the word document attachment).

Resources and References:

To build DNA earings: http://www.indiana.edu/~ensiweb/connections/genetics/genjewel.html

Future Directions:

We will continue to develop additional units and hope to begin the course in fall 2006.
