Instructions for translation
of the nucleic acid coding sequence for the Hemagglutinin gene
Step 1: Open a browser and type in the URL address: workbench.sdsc.edu
Step 2: Set up your free account
Step 3: Enter Biology Workbench and click on the 'session tools' button
and select the 'run' button
Step 4: Select "start a new session" from the menu and select the 'run'
button
Step 5: In the session description box, give the new session a name
e.g. Hemagglutinin and select the 'start new session' button
Step 6: select the 'Nucleic tools' button, then Select Ndjinn - multiple
database search and hit the 'run' button (see arrows)
Step 7: Enter the assession number indicated by the arrow, scroll down
to find the GenBank Viral Sequences (see next diagram) and then select the
'search' button
Step 8: Select GBVRL:31871813 then the 'Import Sequence' button
Step 9: Now hit the 'run' button.
Step 10: Select SIXFRAME from the scroll menu, Check the Influenza
A box and hit the 'run' button
Step 11: Hit 'Submit' at bottom of the page
Scroll through frames 1 through to six and decide which frame is showing
the correct translation of our gene. Remeber, the protein sequence
requires an M for start and only one stop codon.
