Extensions: Using the Notebook to Record Results


You may wish to save your trial runs for the upcoming presentation to your group. The easiest way to do this is to use the notebook that is part of this program. To open the notebook, simply click and hold on the Model heading in the menubar at the top of the screen and then drag down to Show Notebook:




When you release the mouse button, a blank Notebook window will appear:




To type into this notebook, select the text icon in the smaller menubar:




You are now ready to type:




To copy and paste your model and/or results into the notebook, simply click on the model window. Now go to the menubar under Edit and click on Select All:




Note, all the blocks will be shadowed:




Return to Edit and select Copy Blocks:




Now you must click on your Notebook window. (Hint: If you can not find the window, just go back up to Model in the menubar and click on Show Notebook.) Return to Edit in the top menubar and click on Paste Picture:




The model will be pasted into your notebook. You may have to drag it to where you want it to be:




To do this, you might want to drag open the notebook window by clicking on the lower right corner and pulling it open:




Now click and hold on the model until you have moved it to its desired location


It's a good idea to generate a prediction about the model before you run it. This helps you explain your initial ideas to others as well as to keep track of the changes over time.


To copy and paste your results into the notebook, simply click on the simulation results window that you see after a run. Now go to the menubar under Edit and click on Copy Plot:




Now you must click on your Notebook window again. Return to Edit in the top menubar and click on Paste Picture:




The graph will be pasted into your notebook. Drag it to where you want it to be. :





You may wish to add comments about your results for the record as well. To print out this notebook, return to File in the top menubar and click on Print Notebook:
