Brief Overview:

Desulfovibrio vulgaris is a sulfate reducing bacterium. Its genome has a complete nitrate reductase according to the current annotation; however, nitrate can neither be used as a terminal electron acceptor nor as nitrogen source. Even though the organism has a confirmed nitrite reductase no biochemical evidence has been found to support the presence of the annotated nitrate reductase.
