Possible Audiences:

Sophomore students in a general genetics class IMPORTANT NOTE: Unfortunately (for them!!), no members seemed interested in this project. Also, my time is limited and so the idea is here, but there is not much in the way of example. I was chomping at the bit with this one and so I went ahead. Unfortunately no one joined in. It suffers from the lack of group participation.

Brief Overview:

Students are losing the appreciation for the power of traditional “forward genetic” approaches and a situation is arising where most everything is mass “stare and compare” informatics and reverse genetics While the new approaches are very powerful, full scale mutant screens have and should continue to be important.

Project Materials:

Virtual Fly, Biology workbench, OMIM and Other bioinformatics tools

Resources and References:

Future Directions:

More help, more time, specific examples
