Participants will reside together at the Highseas Conference Center. The relaxed country inn ambience of Highseas provides a unique opportunity for informal discussion during meals and interaction with the faculty throughout the course. This environment is a fundamental element in creating an exceptional educational
experience for workshop participants.
Highseas Conference Center offers shared bedrooms with adjoining baths, 24-hour internet access, hiking trails, and hearty meals. Highseas is located approximately one mile from The Jackson Laboratory, and is immediately adjacent to Acadia National Park where it commands spectacular views of Frenchman's Bay and the mountains of Acadia.
Bar Harbor airport features four USAirways flights from Boston each day, and three flights back. US Airways flights depart from Boston Terminal B. If you arrive at another terminal, plan to ride to Terminal B on MassPort Shuttle Bus No. 11. Colgan Air provides the Bar Harbor flights for US Airways using twin-engine Beechcraft airplanes. These planes seat 19 with a single seat on each side of the aisle. Flying time is typically about 50 minutes. There are rental cars and taxi service at the Bar Harbor airport.
Some folks fly into Bangor airport, about a 75 minute drive from Bar Harbor, because prices are sometimes lower. The only practical means of ground transportation from Bangor is to rent a car or call a taxi. Taxi fare is about $60, plus tip. If you choose to go this route, Jackson Lab staff recommend making an advance reservation with Airport Taxi in Trenton, 207-667-5995; they are very reliable.
There is also thrice daily bus service from Boston to Bangor. The bus picks up at both the Boston airport and the South Station Amtrak/bus terminal. Folks should use the express, not the local Concord Maine service (unless they want a nice ride up the coast). The Bangor Concord stop is less than a mile from the Bangor airport and taxi and car rental services are available.
